Akiva Shapiro works with clients to help them create plans to provide for the well-being of those they care about. He works closely each to uncover their hopes, fears, and expectations for themselves and for those who are most important to them.

The result is the careful preparation of necessary legal documents, including a :

  • Wills;
  • Living Wills, which allows you to state your wishes about the type of medical treatment you do—or don’t—want to receive if you’re injured and not expected to recover or become terminally ill);
  • Healthcare Directive (also called an Advance Directive, Medical or Healthcare Power of Attorney, or Designation of Healthcare Surrogate, which allows you to
choose the trusted family member or friend who will be responsible for making healthcare decisions if, for any reason, you lose the ability to make them for yourself);
  • Financial Power of Attorney; and
  • One or more trusts (depending on the size and configuration of the estate and the needs and wishes of the client).
  • But those documents themselves are not “estate planning.” Planning is a process, represented by a complete strategy that is properly documented and maintained by a professional who has taken the time to get to know you, and who is committed to continuing to serve you.
