It’s not always easy to find an estate planning attorney, but there are a fair number of estate planning attorneys out there. You can look them up on Google and you can see what you find. I get many referrals from a google search and my website, but in my practice, a healthy percentage of my business comes from referrals. I get referrals from past clients who have been happy with the work that I’ve done and they have referred their friends and family to me. I also get referrals from a large number of attorneys; attorneys who are not in the estate planning field but with whom I’ve interacted and they’ve passed clients on to me and they’ve gotten very good feedback from those clients. As a result, they pass on more clients to me.

At my firm, I try to handle every single client as a unique individual, a unique couple, or a unique family situation. I craft and tailor a solution that is very specific to their needs. I pay a lot of attention to every single client, and my goal is that when we are finished with the engagement, it is really not the end. We have an ongoing relationship, number one, and with respect to everything they came in to do, we’ve identified their goals, targeted a solution for their goals, produced the documents that are necessary to fulfil those goals, and I’ve explained everything and gotten everyone who is a part of it completely onboard as to how to fulfil those goals. It’s really a holistic approach.

In finding an attorney, sometimes you have to ask around for attorneys that you work with in other areas or ask friends and family members who might know an attorney that does estate planning. I think one of the better ways to find an attorney is to go through a referral. Certainly that’s how the majority of the business comes into my firm, and I’m very happy with that. This is because people who come in already know and already feel comfortable with the work that I’ve done for whoever referred them, so they are coming in with a comfort level and are ready to get started and move forward.
